London, Ontario — January 9, 2014 — Fanshawe College will be hosting an employer panel and student interview session for the school’s pre-apprenticeship collision repair students.
The college’s pre-apprenticeship auto body students, who will complete their 29 weeks of in-school training on Jan. 31, 2014, will take part in the panel with prospective employers prior to the completion of their level one apprenticeship training. While in the program their training included skills development in custom painting techniques and new waterborne paint technology.
In order to get full credit towards their level one, students must now complete an eight to 12 week placement with a collision repair shop which will begin on Feb. 3, 2014. These placements are eligible for partial wage subsidies to the employer to help shops offset some of the costs associated with training.
Employers interested in offering a placement to students are encouraged to get in touch with Fanshawe College and attend the employer panel and student interview event. After confirming attendance, employers will have the opportunity to display their shop’s marketing material and business cards to share with attending students. Each shop will also have the chance to quickly present their business to attending collision repair students, outlining what it is they look for when hiring as well as any other pertinent job-related information. Employers are also encouraged to particpate in a Q&A session and short one-on-one interviews with candidates.
