Toronto, Ontario — Canadian collision industry leaders are less happy with the performance of their businesses in 2019 than 2018, the results of a Collision Repair survey has found.
According to the results from this magazine’s latest annual survey, 12 percent of respondents were ‘pleased as punch’ by their businesses performance in 2019, 40 percent felt ‘relatively good,’ 28 percent answered ‘neutral,’ and 20 percent wrote ‘dreadful.’
In the previous year’s annual survey, far more respondents had responded positively.
While just half-a-percent more answered that they were ‘pleased as punch’, the number of respondents who answered ‘relatively good’ was eight points higher.
Most strikingly, just ten percent of respondents answered ‘dreadful,’ half the proportion of the more recent survey.
One commenter summed up the general mood with finesse.
“Somewhat disappointed has become the new normal,” the respondent wrote. “Growth in sales, but shrinking margins.”
Of course, though the overall numbers for 2019 indicate that it was–in general–a disappointment, the feeling was far from universal.
“Busiest year ever!” wrote one cheerful respondent.
“We had a relatively good year,” said another. “Especially considering the changes in the insurance DRPs affecting us.”
