Toronto, Ontario — In this weekly electric and autonomous vehicle report, building developer Concord Pacific claims to be developing the largest electric vehicle parking facility in the world; while self-driving vehicle company Waymo reports its vehicles are now logging more than one million kilometres per week.
Electric expansions
Building developer Concord Pacific says a highrise project in Burnaby, British Columbia, includes the world’s largest electric-vehicle parking facility.
According to Concord Pacific’s website, the infrastructure includes 1,974 EV charging-equipped spaces, “each backed by a high-capacity electrical system capable of powering all stations simultaneously.”
Four towers share the parkade in the project’s Hillside phase. Its electrical infrastructure system reportedly can supply power to all the level 2 chargers simultaneously, should that ever occur.
Mike Hurley, Mayor of Burnaby commented to Concord Pacific that “this new EV parkade aligns with what we’re aiming for in Burnaby. Achieving carbon neutrality is a community-wide effort that includes residents and businesses in Burnaby, and it’s great to see Concord moving forward with this development. Making it easier for folks to drive electric vehicles, ride their bikes or take transit will help us cut down on carbon emissions and achieve our climate goals faster.”

One-million moves
Waymo announced on October 29, that the autonomous vehicle company plans to expand its position in other United States cities. The autonomous robotaxi company says it has logged more than 150,000 journeys, driving approximately one million self-driven kilometres per week.
According to reports from The Star, Waymo is currently active in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Austin, Texas; and most recently in Atlanta, Georgia.
The company has not currently listed other cities where it might be available.
Additionally, the chief executive of the company’s–and Google’s–parent company Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, reported that Waymo robotaxis are becoming part of daily life more quickly in Austin and Atlanta. Pichai further noted that Waymo’s cooperation with the ride-hailing service Uber has helped.
