Electrifying Alberta: Doug’s Place hosts Tesla Owners Club BBQ

Edmonton, Alberta — August 19, 2019 — Doug’s Place Strathcona held its second annual BBQ open house on Sunday for the Tesla Owners Club of Alberta.

Like the year before, the collision repair service center lined the entrance with Teslas and cleared out the display vehicles inside. They set up tables in the back of the shop with a barbeque outside to feed around 75 people – many of whom are a part of Tesla Owners Club Alberta.

Sales manager and estimator Nelson Santos said they try to hold an event at least once a year to build a rapport with their clients, and that an open house environment not only allows them to ask questions to the staff but also to see first-hand the quality of repair done in the shop.

Santos said he has noticed that his Tesla clients are “techie,” and are usually curious about the inner mechanisms of their EVs. He also said he tends to see a trend with their Tesla customers.

“We usually get the same questions,” Santos said. “‘What is it like to work on Electric Vehicles?'”

Doug Bychyk, the service centers’ founder may have started his repair career with BMWs, but the center’s Strathcona location now has three years of Tesla certification and EV vehicle experience, buying parts directly from California.

Doug’s Place Strathcona turns 50 next year. Its next client event is planned for early next summer.
