Toronto, Ontario – According to a recent survey of more than 16,000 electric vehicle owners by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), most electric vehicle owners will buy another EV despite public charging infrastructure needs.
Specifically, nine out of 10 Canadian EV owners report being likely to buy another EV, with 82 percent being highly likely to do so. Of all surveyees, only three percent reported being willing to consider going back to a gas or diesel-powered vehicle.
On the other hand, while owners reported being highly satisfied with their vehicles, they were less satisfied with the availability of public charging infrastructure.
Notably, 35 percent of respondents said they were not satisfied with the number of public chargers available, with 68 percent of Atlantic Canadian EV drivers especially expressing the same level of dissatisfaction.
Within this, EV owners living in multi-unit dwellings were seemingly more exposed to this issue—charging twice as often on public chargers compared to those who live in single-family homes, where vehicles can charge 85 percent to 90 percent of the time.
Finally, the survey also found that approximately 51 percent of Canadian battery electric vehicle (BEV) owners also own a fossil-fueled vehicle, although 96 percent of drivers that own both consider their EV to be their primary vehicle.
