Toronto, Ontario — August 2, 2018 —Montreal based cleantech company Ecolomondo has purchased land to begin the set up of a tire-recycling plant in Hawkesbury, Ont., as reported by Rubber and Plastics New.

The company has acquired a 13.4-acre piece of land, costing approximately $350,000, with the intention to use the facility to showcase its thermal decomposition process technology. According to the company, the planned construction of the 50,000-sq-ft plant is expected to be completed by the second or third quarter of 2019.

Ecolomondo’s thermal technology takes hydrocarbon waste including: tire, rubber and plastics and converts it into marketable commodity end-products, such as carbon black substitute, oil, gas and steel.

The facility is expected to have the ability to process approximately 13,000 metric tons of end-of-life tires per year, which would allow the company to recover 5,000 tons of carbon black, 6.5 million litres of oil, 1,200 tons of process gas and more than 1,600 tons of steel per year.

Ecolomondo currently operates an industrial-scale plant in Contrecoeur, Que.

Ultragen International, a Quebec-based company, will be in charge of constructing the facility.
