Toronto, Ontario — Ford is reportedly closing its Bramalea, Ont. distribution centre and replacing the site with two smaller locations.
“In order to improve customer satisfaction and expedite parts delivery time to dealers, Ford will be opening a new parts depot in Eastern Ontario and a new location west of Toronto to continue servicing Canada’s most heavily populated region,” Ford Canada spokeswoman Rose Pao told Automotive News Canada. “As a result of the two new locations in Ontario, Ford will no longer operate out of the current Bramalea Parts Distribution Center once the new locations open.”
The automaker is considering new sites and said the transition will take place over a number of years.
Pao also said that because of current and upcoming contract discussions with Unifor, the automaker is still working on allowing employees at the Bramalea facility to transfer to the new locations.
“We are currently at the collective bargaining table with Unifor. We will continue to have dialogue with Unifor on our plan, including employment related details,” Pao said.
Ford Canada has operated its large parts distribution center in Bramalea, Ontario since 1964. The location was opened as a way to consolidate various other locations around Toronto that were established back in the 1940s, and currently spans 900,000 square feet and employs around 200 people.
