Regina, Saskatchewan — Regina, Saskatchewan, saw 230 fewer collisions in 2023 compared to the year prior, marking a 9.6 percent drop in collision rates in the Prairie capital.
Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and Regina Police Services said there were 2,167 reported collisions in 2023–500 fewer incidents than reported in 2018, according to data provided to local news outlet Leader Post.
In a statement, Tyler McMurchy, SGI media relations manager told the Regina Leader Post that this decline can be attributed to stronger provincial and local enforcement, with the cost of certain penalties in February 2020 having increased from $280 to $580.
Additionally, in October 2022, the province raised the cost of penalties for stunt driving and street racing to $580, and the fines for second and third offences were raised in the same year to $1,400 and $2,100 respectively.
