Fonthill, Ontario — It’s nearly that time of year when Jamie Treschak of Treschak Enterprises brings together his community of Fonthill together for a day of barbecue, prizes, and most importantly—throwing axes.
As a dual-threat aftermarket expert and stage combat instructor, Treschak knows exactly how to rally a group around a cause, as he gears up for the fourth edition of the “Axes Up for the Fonthill Legion” charity axe throwing tournament, in support of the local legion’s Meals on Wheels program.
“The Fonthill Legion is not only the best place to play shuffleboard and enjoy an icy cold OV, but it also serves as a pillar of support for our community in countless ways,” Treschak wrote on the event’s Facebook page.
“From providing assistance to veterans to organizing various social events, the Legion has become an integral part of Pelham. Last year, their exceptional efforts in preparing and delivering free meals to housebound individuals during the ongoing pandemic were recognized with a prestigious Niagara Region Impact Award.”
This year’s event will yet again pit members of the community against one another in a pair of experienced and beginner axe throwing tournaments. Once the primal bloodlust has left your body, there will also be a 50/50 draw, a penny sale and several food options available to anyone who should stop by.
With only a month out from the day, Treschak has already managed to secure Color Compass and the local Sobeys location in Fonthill as sponsors for this year’s event.
The 2023 Axes Up for the Fonthill Legion tournament is currently set for Aug. 26 in the parking lot outside the legion. Participants in the tournament are welcome to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for an open throw and coaching, ahead of the noon start time.
