Toronto, Ontario — Honda and Ford continue to dominate the Canadian auto sales industry with the Civic and F-Series trucks, respectively, leading in overall sales volume over the past several years, according to a report from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
The report noted that these two powerhouses, in their respective categories, continue to lead sales in their fields despite the interruption to the usual car-buying season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Both models noted significant sales declines but still outperformed their markets with Civic sales down 49.7 percent in Q2 and 43.8 percent in the first half, alongside F-Series sales which were down 37.6% in Q2 and 24.6 percent in the first half,” according to a company release.
The Toyota Corolla followed second to the Civic in the first and second quarters while the Volkswagon Golf posted impressive numbers in the second quarter, securing itself a spot at fourth in overall sales for passenger cars in 2020.
In the category of light trucks, the Ram series from Dodge and the GMC Sierra solidified their spots at second and third in sales behind Ford’s F-Series despite faring quite well through expected sales decreases.
In Quebec however, it was Toyota’s RAV4 that shot up the list of light trucks to finish in second for sales at the end of the second quarter.
A similar story can be seen in Nova Scotia as well, with the Honda CR-V reaching second in truck sales while in Saskatchewan the Hyundai Elantra made an unexpected appearance in second for passenger cars.
