Regina, Saskatchewan — Saskatchewan’s collision repair industry received some well-deserved recognition at the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission’s (SATCC) award ceremony last month, as an up-and-coming auto body technician from Muenster came away with some hardware.
Shane Hersack is a journeyperson technician and now one of the 30 new recipients of the SATCC’s Outstanding New Journeyperson award, for having achieved certification between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022.
“It just means a lot because, you know, you work your butt off for it and it’s kind of proof that you put a lot of effort into it,” he said.
Hersack currently works as a painter at Humboldt Motors in Humboldt, where he says he gets to see his skills in action every single day.
“It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it in the end. You see a vehicle that’s all smashed up and it’s awful to see, but then you fix it and it’s very rewarding.”
Chair of the SATCC’s board, Drew Tiefenbach said that these awards represent not simply a recognition of the achievements of some individual tradespeople, but a gesture for building credibility for an apprenticeship system that ultimately aims to serve the needs of the public.
“The Apprenticeship Award recipients are champions, helping to build and execute a relevant, responsive apprenticeship and certification system, one that supports our province’s growth and meets the needs of Saskatchewan citizens,” said Tiefenbach.
“On behalf of the SATCC and Commission Board of Directors, congratulations on your terrific achievements.”
The twenty-second annual SATCC apprenticeship award ceremony took place on Nov. 4 in Regina.
