Calgary, Alberta — April 7, 2016 — Some partnerships are just a natural fit. TJ Brodie, star defenceman for the Calgary Flames, has a close family member who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. CARSTAR has been raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis Canada for years. It only seems natural that they would come together for the TJ Brodie Skate in Strides Program.
The partnership came to fruition recently when two CARSTAR MSO groups, CMD and Kharfan, along with Calgary Flames representatives, presented a cheque for over $90,000 to Cystic Fibrosis Canada through the TJ Brodie Skate in Strides Program. The program was conceived by CARSTAR’s Western Canada Director Mike Piper and CARSTAR’s partners at the Calgary Flames Hockey Club.
For the last two seasons, CARSTAR has been working closely with the Calgary Flames and have formed strong partnership in the community. It turns out Brodie had been looking at how he could use his celebrity status and professional pedigree to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Brodie’s commitment to finding a cure is motivated by a very close family member who suffers from the genetic disease.
Throughout the 2015/16 NHL Hockey season, CARSTAR CMD and Kharfan Group locations sold Calgary Flames and CARSTAR co-branded baseball hats and skate guards in all of their CARSTAR stores, with all profits going to Cystic Fibrosis.
On top of funds raised directly through sales, TJ Brodie and the Calgary Flames each committed to match all funds raised.
Together, CARSTAR, TJ Brodie and the Calgary Flames have made a significant impact towards finding a cure for CF and have shown that, as Mike Piper commented earlier this this week “It’s amazing what we can achieve when people work together.”
CARSTAR would like to extend a very special thank you to Matt Stathonikos, Dave Stretz, Chris Stathonikos and their staff team at CMD CARSTAR; Mark Kharfan, Andrew Northrup, Curtis Williams, Brian Grover and their team at The CARSTAR Kharfan Group; The Calgary Flames Hockey Club and of course, TJ Brodie.
