Castle Donington, United Kingdom — July 25, 2016 — Donington Park Race Circuit, located in the heart of England, was the home of this year’s two day CARS/MRE 2016 show. Officially known as the ‘Complete Auto Recycling & Secondary Materials’ show, this year’s event partnered up with the Metals Recycling Event. The event has been taking place regularly since 2012. I had the pleasure of attending for the second time and was just as impressed on this occasion as I was first time around.
Although not hosted by a salvage yard this year, the fully functioning racetrack proved to be an equally good backdrop. Once finished with the onsite museum, featuring the largest collection of F1 cars in the world, you could watch all manner of flat track machines, operating under full throttle and flying around the track for test and tune purposes.
Business came first, however, with friendly Brits throughout the conference eager to share what they know. Ongoing seminars each day made you realize our problems and opportunities are not unique to our industry here in Canada. Boasting 70 exhibitors, many live demonstrations, a skills lab, beer tent, café, food court, and an F1 simulator, the event was fittingly finished off with a gala dinner.
