Carbon Controls: Hyundai and Kia unveil system for automotive carbon emissions management

Seoul, Korea — Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have announced the development of the Integrated Greenhouse Gas Information System (IGIS), a platform designed to monitor, quantity and manage carbon emissions throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.

As noted in a recent press release, by leveraging the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, the automakers hope that the IGIS platform will provide detailed quantification and tracking of carbon emissions so that companies can ensure accurate and consistent data collection.

Additionally, the automakers note that IGIS’s integration of carbon emissions data will allow the companies to more quickly react to upcoming international environmental regulation changes and fulfill external certifications.

Eunsook Jin, executive vice president and head of ICT Division at Hyundai Motor and Kia concluded that “in our mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, we are taking a significant leap forward with the development of IGIS. Through IGIS, we are intensifying our efforts to build a responsible value chain.”
