Toronto, Ontario — Sept. 30, 2019 — Nissan is recalling 1.36 million vehicles in four countries, including Canada, for issues with rear visibility camera display systems.
Submitted on Sept. 12, the recall affects certain 2018 and 2019 Nissan Altima, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan and Versa vehicles. Infiniti Q70, Q50, Q60, QX 60, QX 50, QX30 and QX80 vehicles were also reflected by the recall.
Affected vehicles have noncompliant rear visibility camera displays systems that allow drivers to adjust rearview camera display settings “to the degree that the image is no longer visible.” The system display would not return to the required default image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, and the lack of the backup camera image increases the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents.
Nissan has said 126,195 vehicles in Canada are affected by the recall. Vehicles in the United States, South Korea and Israel are also affected.
Nissan will begin notifying customers on Oct. 21 and will replace the system free of charge.
