Toronto, Ontario — As vehicles become more and more technologically advanced, questions have begun to hit the mainstream media about the process of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) repairs, with news organizations like Forbes considering the impacts of misaligned systems.

Notably, a recent article from Forbes titled “ADAS Sensors Post-Repair: A Hidden Threat to Road Safety,” stresses the importance of consumer ADAS calibrations by bodyshops.

The report, meant to help introduce the general public to the concept of ADAS calibration, further notes that—as originally reported by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)–when a vehicle’s camera is misaligned by only 0.6 degrees, the reaction time for braking can be reduced by 60 percent, from 1.5 seconds to 0.9 seconds.

Other issues that can arise when ADAS systems are not properly calibrated include: a false sense of security, which could lead to drivers ignoring necessary warnings; and liability concerns.
