Toronto, Ontario — On Monday, Stellantis announced that it is recalling 194,000 plug-in hybrid electric Jeep SUVs in order to address fire risks and potential battery components.

The recall specifically affects 14,000 in Canada, 154,000 vehicles in the United States, 700 in Mexico and approximately 26,000 outside of North America.

The automaker is further pursuing the recall after 13 fires were reported and is currently encouraging owners of 2020 through 2024 model year Jeep Wrangler and 2022 through 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles.

Additionally, Stellantis commented that the fires reported occurred when the affected vehicles were parked and turned off. It estimates that just five percent of affected vehicles may have the defect.

However, risk can be mitigated when the affected vehicles’ battery charge level is depleted.

Stellantis is currently working on a solution to the issue and owners with affected vehicles will be contacted as soon as possible.
