Bungee Bungles: Driver’s vehicle towed for being held together by bungee cords and seatbelts

Caledon, Ontario — CTV News has reported that police in Caledon, Ont., recently charged a motorist for driving a vehicle held together by bungee cords and seatbelts.

The driver, a 23-year-old Tottenham resident was reportedly pulled over on King Caledon Townline near King Street after an officer noticed the rear driver’s side door being held closed with bungee cords and seatbelts.

The driver told the officer that the vehicle had previously been damaged in a minor collision.

In an email to CTV News, OPP Conts. Jesse Nobleman stated that “temporary fixes using such things as tape or straps are unsafe and could lead to dangerous situations on our roadways. As a licensed driver, it is your duty to ensure the vehicle in which you’re operating is free from any defects and is safe for use on roadways.”

Officers had the vehicle towed and the driver was charged with operating an unsafe vehicle.
