Toronto, Ontario — In an excerpt originally published by I-CAR, Hyundai shares repair guidelines for bumper covers near advanced driver assistant systems (ADAS) sensors.
As noted in the recent release, when repairing bumper covers where a front or rear corner radar unit is present, the automaker suggests that while repairers can perform touch-up painting on the front and rear bumpers in the areas in front of the corner radar units, plastic repairs to these areas are not recommended.
This is specifically because when it comes to plastic repairs, the altered shape and surface of the bumpers may affect corner radar performance.
Hyundai further notes that paints with excessive aluminum content may also interfere with corner radar performance.
As a result, repairers should refer to TSB #23-BD-012G for the maximum allowable percentages for each specific exterior colour, says the release.
Finally, when it comes to ultrasonic sensors, Hyundai states that no refinishing or touch-up paint may be performed on the ultrasonic sensors. If any damage or contamination occurs, the sensors must instead be replaced.
