Brightened Up: 2023 Kia EV6 earns IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ award

Toronto, Ontario — The 2023 Kia EV6 small electric SUV has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ award, thanks in part to its improved headlights.

According to an IIHS press release, 2022 model year EV6s built before September did not earn an award due to a poor headlight rating.

However, Kia’s decision to equip all trims with good-rated LED reflector headlights and front crash prevention system meant that the EV6 now met all requirements for the award.

The lower-tier Top Safety Pick is eligible for vehicles that offer good or acceptable headlight system in one or more models. In contrast, the higher-tier Top Safety Pick+ is reserved for vehicles that standardize good or acceptable headlights across all trims.

While early 2023 models did not technically qualify for the award, Kia has notified affected customers and offered free adjustments at its affiliated dealerships.
