Toronto, Ontario – Volkswagen Canada announced on Wednesday that it will be recalling more than 33,000 vehicles due to faulty fuel rail bolts.
33,414 Canadian 2016-18 Volkswagen Jetta sedans, along with 218,192 of their American equivalents, were reported to have been installed with fuel rail bolts that were incorrectly tightened, causing leaking fuel and increased risk of vehicle fires, according to a U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) document.
A spokesperson for Volkswagen Canada said that at this point, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the faulty hardware.
The NHTSA was made aware of the recall on Oct. 21 and is expected to begin notifying dealers and owners on Dec. 20.
