Blizzards Mean Busy: MPI reports receiving 500 collision claims following extreme winter weather

Winnipeg, Manitoba – Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) has reportedly received more than 500 collision claims following blizzard conditions last Friday.

Due to extreme weather conditions, last Friday, drivers in the province were warned by weather reports and news sources to stay off the roads.

However, in a statement made by MPI, on Monday, the Crown corporation reported receiving 511 collision claims.

According to online statements, 268 of these claims came from Winnipeg; 31 from Steinbach; 26 from West St. Paul; and 15 from Ste. Anne.

MPI further reported to news sources that Blumenort, Brandon, Headingley and Portage la Prairie had 12 claims; 11 from the RM of St. Andrews; and finally, 10 from Lorette.

The organization has not fully analyzed the data to review if all claims made were due to the extreme winter weather. However, the company told news sources that it believes that the weather was a strong contributing factor.

This is a developing story.
