Clogged causeway
There was quite the clog on Ontario’s Highway 401 on Jan. 14 when two trucks collided and unleashed thousands of rolls of toilet paper onto the busy roadway.
The incident occurred near the Thousand Islands U.S. bridge. One of the transport trucks involved in the collision happened to be carrying rolls of toilet paper, which exploded onto the highway after the crash.
Thankfully, there were no injuries. However, it did take crews several hours to wipe up the bizarre mess.
And once the internet got a hold of the strange news, the puns started pouring in.
“Should be wiped up pretty quickly,” wrote one Twitter user.
“They’ll just have to roll with it,” wrote another.
Pretty in plaid
Toronto-based Pfaff Motorsports turned heads last week at the Daytona International Speedway with its checkerboard Porsche 911 GTR.
The 911—which has been deemed the ‘Plaid Porsche’—was a blur of black and red in the Daytona 500 GTD division, winning the pole position with Zacharie Robichon and leading the first four hours on Jan. 18.
“It’s great for people to call us that,” said Robichon, referring to the ‘Plaid Porsche’ moniker. “You’re laughing about it because, yeah, it is funny—but that means you’re talking about it.”
Pfaff also garnered attention for its stylish firesuits, all of which are in the same classic plaid pattern.
“It’s just something that a lot of people wear in Canada,” said Robichon. “The Canadian ski team has plaid jackets, and the curling guys wear it too. We were trying to figure out what to do for the livery and we said, ‘well, why don’t we just wrap the car in plaid?’ It was a joke, and we ran with it because we didn’t have any other ideas.”
Tesla takeoff
A young YouTube star has generated buzz in the car community after catapulting his Tesla Model X over a massive hill in Los Angeles, Calif., sending the EV airborne.
David Dobrik, a 23-year-old YouTube sensation, posted the clip to his channel on Thursday evening. The short clip shows Dobrik handing his Tesla Model X keys over to two trusted pilots, who explain that they are going to speed Dobrik’s car over the hill in an attempt to send it leaping through the air—on a residential street, no less.
The pilots then hop in the car, push the gas to the floor and clear the entire top of the hill while nervous onlookers watched the lapse in judgement go down.
Surprisingly, the Tesla sustained no damage.
Several viewers shared the video on Twitter, tagging Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Musk’s response? A simple exclamation point—leaving his followers to interpret how he feels about the stunt.
The stunt—while wildly entertaining—is incredibly dangerous. It turns out that the street Dobrik and his posse decided to make the rally jump on is one-way—in the opposite direction, presumably to stop silly stunts like this one.
