Toronto, Ontario — July 11, 2019 – From starting fires to fighting cacti, it seems as if drivers haven’t had a shortage of wacky ideas this week, and repairers haven’t had a shortage of business. Here are Collision Repair’s top three weirdest automotive stories of the week.
Burnt Out Baby Daddy
One gender reveal party took a turn for the worst when a proud father tried to unveil the sex of his unborn child and accidentally set his car on fire.
Instead of releasing baby-boy-blue balloons or sprinkling coloured confetti on party guests, one Australian couple had a more creative way to tell their friends and family that their baby-on-the-way was going to be a boy — an epic burnout.
The baby’s proud father decided to perform this stunt on a residential road, hitting the gas and the brake on his car at the same time so that his specially-bought tires spun on the spot and generated large clouds of blue smoke. However, his plans began to crash and burn as his back tires caught fire and the large billow of blue smoke quickly turned black.
Thankfully, no one was injured but the car sustained some pretty significant damages and the baby daddy faced a fat fine. The local police urged that next time, a simple cake-cut will do.
Only in Arizona
A prickly stand-off between a driver and a cactus resulted in one broken windshield and a possible DUI in Tuscon Arizona earlier this week.
On Wednesday morning, 39-year-old Kai Scott was driving through Tuscon before smashing directly into a massive cactus with his black sports car. The cactus retaliated by breaking off in half and smashing straight through Scott’s windshield vertically, nearly impaling him in one fatal swoop.
Although Scott escaped without a single prick, it was reported he was taken into custody for showing signs of impairment.
And that folks answer the age-old question of who would win. An allegedly inebriated man or a massive, vengeful, cactus.
Eager Yeager
When Illinois mother Jennifer Yeager couldn’t find a water park close to her home, she excitedly decided to give her kids an at-home experience, by strapping an inflatable pool to the roof of her Audi and taking them for a spin.
Local police received a tip from a local resident that two kids were playing in a pool strapped on a moving car, and just moments later, Yeager was stopped, because how hard is it to spot that?
Yeager was arrested for failure to secure a passenger of the age of 8 and under the age of 16 as well as two counts of endangering the health or life of a child, and two counts of reckless conduct.
While thankfully there was no collision involved, if there was, Yeager would have no trouble thinking of a creative way to set up her own shop at home.
