Earls Cove, British Columbia — Diet pop just doesn’t taste the same. I know it, you know it, and as one Earls Cove, B.C. resident learned, black bears know it too.
The 69 full-sugar cans of orange pop, cola and root beer, however, were no match for the thirsty black bear that stopped by Sharon Rosel’s house on April 13.
Rosel says she was awoken around 3 a.m. to the sound of her dog barking and the sight of a bear “drinking massive amounts of soda” she had stored in her passenger seat.
She said that over the course of half-an-hour she watched the bear break open and drink all but three of the cans she had purchased for her food truck earlier that evening. See? Even bears don’t like diet pop.
Now left with a ripped leather interior, a broken window crank and an exceptionally sticky gear shifter, Rosel is hoping that her insurance will cover at least some of the damages.
She also noted to local media that the bear had managed to rip through so many pop cans in such a short period of time, but didn’t once see it reach for the pack of paper towels sitting right next to the pop.
