Auto shop fundraiser promises a smashing good time

Toronto, Ontario — July 22, 2019- Eccles Auto Service has come up with a fun and quite destructive way to attract customers and raise money for a local hospice – a car smash.

Instead of offering car washes, Dundas – based auto shop is offering a chance to take a whack at a donated car. Attendees of the event can pay $5 to take a sledgehammer to a Kia in efforts to raise money for Margaret’s Place, an organization that supports bereaved families and brings beds to hospices.

In addition, the car will be painted bright pink by children from the Routes Youth Centre, an organization that provides children with a safe and caring space to gather, educational progreams as well as healthy meals.

“Bruce’s event is a five-way win – the hospice gains much-needed funds, our community gets more hospice capacity, Routes youth get to volunteer, Routes Youth Centre gets a donation, and participants – well, they get to smash a car,” stated John van Vliet, chairman of the Routes Youth Centre board of directors.

The event is expected to run July 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their new shop located at 123 Hatt St.
