INDIANAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, is honored to receive the Pro Patria Award from the Indiana Committee for Employer Support to the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Each ESGR State Committee presents the award annually to one small, one large and one public sector employer in their state or territory.
The Pro Patria Award is presented to employers who demonstrate exceptional support for our national defense by adopting leadership practices and personnel policies which make it easier for employees to serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
“Allison is honored to receive the highest-level award bestowed by the Indiana ESGR Committee,” said Lorraine Parker-Clegg, Vice President of Human Resources & Chief People Officer, Allison Transmission. “As a company, we have an established history of supporting active military and veterans, and we look forward to continuing to serve these communities through numerous community programs and company-wide initiatives.”
Over the past four years, Allison has partnered with local organizations including Vietnam Veterans of Indiana, USO, Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship, VFW Post 6904, the Indiana National Guard and INvets to provide support for veterans. As a founding partner of INvets, Allison has actively participated in its programming in a variety of ways. The company’s employees have traveled to active-duty installations to learn more about individual units and specialties and participated in virtual hiring and training events for service members. Together, the two organizations have served thousands of veterans and transitioning service members throughout the state.
In addition to supporting local government organizations and nonprofits, Allison also honors veterans through its leadership practices. The company’s executive team hosts a celebration and special ceremony to honor the veterans in its workforce on Veterans Day. Allison participates in career fairs for veterans and coordinates an annual food drive in November to support the UAW Local 933 Veterans Committee. In addition, Allison hosted a Military 101 Training Session in partnership with the Indiana National Guard in 2019. The goal of the training was to educate hiring managers about military structure, culture and challenges veterans face when integrating into the workforce.
The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis presented Allison with the Pro Patria Award at their Veterans Day breakfast on November 11, 2022.
