Ajax, Ontario — The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) is announcing its 2020 Innovation Awards winners next week at the Ajax Convention Centre in Ajax, Ont.
“AJAC’s Innovation Awards celebrate advancements in safety, eco-innovation, and technology, and now they do so with an added level of excitement,” said Jim Kerr, the chair for the AJAC Innovation Awards. “We relish this opportunity to recognize the very best and most innovative examples of new automotive products available to Canadian drivers.”
The finalists for the awards’ first category, Best Safety Innovation, are Cadillac, for its innovations to night vision technology; Chevrolet, for its Buckle to Drive system and Hyundai, for its Blind Spot View Monitor.
The second category is Best Technical Innovation and has the most finalists, with FCA for its Blind Spot Monitoring with Trailer Detection; General Motors for its Transparent Trailer View; Cadillac for its Super Cruise technology and Hyundai for its Remote Start Parking Assist.
Last but not least, the AJAC Innovation Awards also look for the Best Green Innovation to see which automaker is the most environmental conscience. Porsche made the cut with its new EV series, the Taycan with its 800-volt architecture; Mitsubishi with its PHEV Fast Charging technology for the Outlander series and Hyundai—the only manufacturer to appear as a finalist in all three categories—for its Smart Regenerative Braking system.
Each automaker finalist will present its technology to a panel of seven judges, comprised of automotive journalist veterans—who will also announce the overall Canadian Car of the Year.
The awards will take place during AJAC’s annual TestFest event on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the convention centre.
