AIA to publish an industry toolkit on human resources

On June 13, the AIA will publish an online resource providing human resources support for businesses in the automotive aftermarket.
Toronto, Ontario — June 15, 2018 — The Automotive Industry Association (AIA) will be publishing a human resources toolkit this weekend.

“Written with the automotive aftermarket industry in mind, this first of its kind HR toolkit is perfect for the hiring needs of small and medium-sized businesses across Canada!” the AIA wrote in a press release.

The 20th century has seen a rapid professionalization of the automotive aftermarket, leading many businesses to develop short term approaches to human resource needs, rather than long term ones.

For the collision repair industry in Canada, change has come particularly rapid. Today, there are half as many facilities in operation compared to in 2000, though the industry as-a-whole generates more profits.

The introduction of human resources to the automotive aftermarket industry has meant most of this highly specialized work has fallen on people in administrative and managerial positions.

While there are now post-university diploma programs specializing in the field, fewer than one-in-ten Canadian collision repair facilities have a dedicated human resources professional.

The booklet, which will include 50 interview questions and advice on promoting an inclusive and integrated workplace, will be revealed on June 13, and will be available at aiacanada.com/publications.
