Toronto, Ontario – In the ongoing effort to instil consistent ADAS repair practices across the automotive industry, CIECA has released a short instructional video to guide technicians through an ideal workflow.
The five-minute video lays out a 12 step process for how technicians should approach repairing a vehicle equipped with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).
CIECA’s process addresses a number of obstacles that have in the past hindered ADAS repairs from becoming more standardized.
For example, this workflow process emphasizes the need to educate the customer on the full scope of their vehicle’s ADAS capabilities at full functionality; a point which, if not fully understood, could lead drivers to accept incomplete or unsafe repairs.
As well, it is a requirement of the process that the ADAS technician consults directly with the collision repairer who will be doing the bodywork so that they can be on the same page when it comes to which sensors may be affected or disabled during the repair.
Documentation is involved in nearly every step of the process to ensure that every ADAS feature is accounted for before the repair and confirmed to be returned to original condition after the repair as well.
The process ends with a road test and a scan before a final consultation with the customer to explain the work done to both the body and the internal systems.
An opening disclaimer in the video says that “this production is the culmination of 18 months of work by the CIECA ADAS calibration committee.”
