Brussels, Belgium — Belgian dealer Mazda St-Michel and Gisele Racing has created a Mazda MX-5 that both glows in the dark and is reportedly a “love letter to Japan.”
Notably, the vehicle’s design draws inspiration from Japanese pop culture and the country’s history to honour Mazda’s country of origin.
As first noted by Carscoops, the original design was conceived by Mexican artist Eric Lopez, with Belgium artist Boris Sandron handling the adaptation and application to the MX-5-s body.
When looking at time breakdowns, the original drawing itself took 300 hours to complete, with an additional 100 hours for design adaptation, 100 hours for painting, five hours for sanding and another five for varnishing. As a result, 510 hours were spent creating the vehicle’s design.
Moreover, when looking closely at the vehicle, onlookers can see Godzilla on the vehicle’s hood, alongside a Japanese dragon on the car’s profile. Kabuki masks—referencing traditional Japanese theatre—can also be seen.
The vehicle glows in the dark when using a black light through the application of fluorescent paint.
The Mazda MX-5 “Kabuki Town” will embark on a six-month tour across Europe with prospective buyers able to make offers for the vehicle beginning at $75,000.
