Toronto, Ontario — A few months back, the magazine highlighted an emerging literary trend–romance novels that get hot for the bodyshop tech.
While the profession may be on the receiving end of chick-lit lusting, this does not seem to translate into real-life romantic results. Technician satisfaction after interactions with the young, heartbroken heirs/heiresses remains unchanged.
Reality is, unfortunately, a bitter disappointment.
To escape, Collision Repair‘s arts and culture department have taken a deep dive into escapism. In this article, the team considers the Hollywood film franchises where being an autobody repair technician is akin to being a king.
Star Wars
It seems unlikely that the repair infrastructure exists to handle the Galaxy’s needs, but that may not mean it is easy to find employment. In general, most of the vehicles damaged in the Star Wars saga either go unrepaired for decades—like the Millennium Falcon—or simply explode.
Repairers can take some solace, should they find themselves in a galaxy far, far away. While it might not have saved any of the repair techs working in either Death Star, in general, repairing ships is a better gig than flying them. Unfortunately, there is a good chance your co-worker will be a garbage can.
Top Tip: Mastering the force will allow your employer to save a fortune on lifts.
Sensible Goal: Offer reasonably priced pod racer repairs and keep well clear of jobs inside massive superweapons.
BATMAN
Unless Alfred, Bruce Wayne and Robin are performing all the repairs himself, the work is going to be steady. It seems like a safe bet that the crew conducting frequent repairs on the Batmobile have an inkling about where their money is coming from. Given Batman’s feelings on blackmail, however, using this information to one’s advantage is inadvisable.
Top Tip: Figure out which OEM is writing the repair procedures and break the year’s biggest news story.
Sensible Goal: Aim to keep the Batmobile mobile until it is at least 50 percent Bondo by weight.
Jurassic Park
When terrifying lizards escape, who do you think is more useful to have around? A paleontologist, or an auto repairer? Most people should want to escape in a vehicle more than they want to stay and take notes on the prehistoric slaughter.
Sure, you will have the respect of your peers, but will you make it out alive? These films all take place on islands—why didn’t you study marine repair?
Top Tip: Stay in the car unless it stops running. If it stops running, direct a brave child to guide you while you remain within the vehicle. If all else fails, adopt a brontosaurus.
Sensible Goal: Become the first auto repairer to use PDR techniques on a dent caused by a tyrannosaurus attack.
