A Catalytic Collection: British Columbia RCMP seize 439 catalytic converters in B.C. theft, trafficking investigation

Burnaby, British Columbia — RCMP officers in Burnaby, B.C. have reported that undercover officers in a lengthy investigation have seized 439 stolen catalytic converters intended to be shipped illegally to the United States.

The Canadian Press noted that RCMP said in a statement that its officers used search warrants on June 1st, 2023 at four locations linked to the suspicious activity of one man, including his home, business and an industrial works yard.

From this search, police further reported finding 439 catalytic converters, with 392 prepackaged for shipment.

The RCMP alleges that the suspect ran a mobile metal recycling business, which salvaged vehicles and legitimately shipped the converters across the border in bulk–but also bought and sold stolen material.

The suspect in question is now facing charges of attempting to possess and traffic property obtained by crime.
