Milan, Italy — The European automotive mainstays at Alfa Romeo announced on Friday that it is taking another swing at securing a foothold in North America with the reveal of a new “large-sized vehicle” earmarked for the local market.
According to Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, this move marks a clear step forward for the Stellantis subsidiary to make use of its parent company’s international manufacturing capabilities, although Imparato remarked that they have not yet decided where this mysterious new model will be built.
“Our offer for a large size vehicle must fit international markets, American, Chinese, European,” he said during a media call, a day after parent Stellantis released first-half financial results.
Imparato says the company is still undecided on whether this new vehicle will be an SUV, crossover or sedan, but said that “We want to find the right mix.
“It’s a decision we will make by the end of this year,” he said.
Popularity in the North American market has quickly shifted over the past several years, away from coupes and sedans and towards SUVs and crossovers.
The company is expecting to launch this new vehicle in 2027.
