Pitea, Sweden — Call him Homer Simpson, because U.K. stunt driver Terry Grant is officially the master of frosted donuts now that he has broken the Guinness record for most consecutive donuts driven on ice.
Grant, thanks to his modded Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, managed to spin 69 times in a row within an area no larger than twice the length of the car.
The ultimate triumph of the record-breaking run did not come without its trials, however, as a sensor-based safety feature operating in its proper capacity presented quite a challenge to Grant.
The snow his vehicle was kicking up actually blocked its sensors on several runs, causing the Taycan to shut down as though it were just in an accident.
“It’s an amazing safety thing on the car,” said Grant. “It’s very, very good—makes my job extremely hard.”
The effect of his studded tires on the delicate ice surface also created an added layer of difficulty to the already dizzying challenge.
“It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Obviously we were chewing through the ice with the studded tires, and a large hole was appearing. And that was making it very difficult for me to stay concentrated and in the right place. I kept dropping in and out of the hole. It made it extremely hard. But I’m very pleased,” said Grant.
Grant’s record-breaking run took place in February at the 2022 Race of Champions, held this year in Pitea, Sweden.
