Platform Pioneers: Polestar 5 will feature bonded aluminum platform

Toronto, Ontario — Welders beware; Swedish automaker Polestar has announced the Polestar 5 electric vehicle which features a bonded aluminum platform.

The company says the new feature will help streamline the manufacturing process, allowing vehicle bodies and platforms to be produced in unison.

Polestar says the technology was developed in-house by more than 280 engineers at the company’s research and development facility in Coventry, U.K., the heart of what is considered England’s Motorsport Valley.

“Our U.K. research and development team is one of Polestar’s greatest assets,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath in a statement.

“Their mix of engineering and technological expertise enables us to develop advanced, lightweight sports car technology with a creative mindset and a spirit that embraces innovative engineering.”

The company said that not only will the bonded aluminum platform aid in manufacturing, but it will also benefit the vehicle’s dynamics, rigidity and safety features.

The Polestar 5 is expected to go on sale in 2024.
