Centennial College joins TrainingMatters.ca directory

Toronto, Ontario–Oct. 10, 2013–Media Matters, Inc., is pleased to announce that Centennial College has joined the ranks of training providers listing their courses on TrainingMatters.ca, the collision repair industry’s training portal.

Centennial College offers a 36 week, three semester post-secondary auto body program for students interested in becoming familiar with the collision repair industry and the type of work they’ll be doing if they choose the trade as a career path.

Program coordinator Paulo Santos says that this program works two-fold for the 80 students accepted with each intake, as it will provide students with the practical and theoretical learning they need to perform basic repairs and additionally prepare them for the apprenticeship program.

“We prepare them by teaching them how to repair using OEM specifications and also how to be responsible techs once they enter the trade and start their careers,” says Santos.

Once students graduate from the post secondary auto body program, they will also be eligible to take an exam that if they pass, they will be allowed to advance to their level 2 apprenticeship.

“It’s the only program of its type in Ontario,” Santos says.

Centennial’s Auto Body Repair apprenticeship program is for more advanced repairers who already have some experience working in the industry, and is offered as an 8-week course that is funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) and administered on-campus at the college.

“The only difference between the post secondary and apprenticeship programs is that as you go through the levels it’s a little more in depth if you go through as an apprentice and it’s a little more practical and physical than in the post secondary program,” he says.

Both programs offer the chance to network with potential employers while gaining the practical foundation necessary to succeed as a collision repair professional.

“I’ve been told by students that ours is a one-of-a-kind program and they can’t find anything like it in their area,” Santos says, recalling a conversation with a student from Thunder Bay, Ont.. “It’s a program that fills out quite well.”
