Ottawa, Ontario — The champions of the Skills Canada Virtual National Competition were announced during Skills/Compétences Canada’s (SCC) closing ceremony last week.
The competition was held on June 15, and over 1,200 high school and post-secondary students, apprentices, teachers, industry leaders and career seekers were present. Top competitors were given medals in the 37 skill areas among six sectors including construction, transportation, manufacturing and engineering, information technology, services and employment.
Autobody Repair medallists were:
Gold
- Marie-Eve Beauregard (Quebec)
- Eduardo Cerrato (Manitoba)
Silver
- Maxwell Fisher (Alberta)
- Ashton Unger (Alberta)
Bronze
- Carter Vanderven (Ontario)
- Kegan Behiel (British Columbia)
The full list of medalists in all trades can be viewed on the Skills Canada website. Gold medal winners from the 2021 event are eligible to compete at the 2022 Skills Canada National Competition in Vancouver for a chance to secure their placement on WorldSkills Team Canada for the next WorldSkills Competition, which is tentatively booked for the fall of 2022 in Shanghai, China.
Shaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer at Skills/Compétences Canada, says that it’s important to have events and competitions like this to highlight important trades and for students to find jobs that they wouldn’t have known about otherwise.
“Events like the Skills Canada Virtual National Competition provide a platform for competitors to develop their skills and helps prepare them for their future. It also raises awareness of skilled trade and technology careers by encouraging youth to learn about these occupations through career exploration activities,” said Thorson.
