Slow Down, Move Over: Tow truck driver hit by vehicle in Calgary

Calgary, Alberta — A tow truck driver was taken to the hospital early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle near Deerfoot City.

According to Global News, police said the tow truck driver had parked the truck in the 5700 block of southbound 11 Street N.E. around 6 a.m. to aid a driver who was having car trouble.

While working on the vehicle on the side of the road, the victim was struck by a passing car.

Paramedics then transported the victim to the Foothills Medical Centre in life threatening condition.

Sgt. Colin Foster from the CPS traffic unit said the tow truck had its lights on, and the driver was wearing high-visibility gear when he was struck, according to Global News.

Police are investigating if driver impairment was a factor in the crash, and are asking anyone with information about the collision to call the Calgary Police Service’s non-emergency number at 403-266-1234 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Police are also reminding drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles on the roadside.
