Volkswagen’s April Fools joke made headlines on March 30 this year as the automaker teased as U.S. name change to ‘Voltswagen’.
After the news was prematurely leaked, Volkswagen released a statement on its website seemingly confirming the news. But by the time Mar. 31 rolled around, the gig was up and the OEM admitted it was all an elaborate prank.
The prank, however, caused Volkswagen stock to rise 12.5 percent on Tuesday–a climb many suspect was spurred by the OEM’s apparent commitment to the digital age.
