Paris, France — Scrap and recycling industry member Greg Stewart defended his record-setting F46 shot put Paralympic Gold from Tokyo 2020 last week, winning back-to-back medals as he once again claimed Paralympic gold in Paris.
Stewart, the owner of Para Metals Contracting and recent speaker at the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI), successfully defended his Tokyo Paralympic gold in Paris last week, throwing a season-best 16.38 metres on his fifth of sixth attempts to claim a second Paralympic gold medal.
Stewart is also the author of a children’s book, Stand Out: The True Story of Paralympic Gold Medallist Greg Stewart.
Stewart started his own business in January 2020, hoping to pay his bills so he could continue his Paralympic training but also seeking something that would fill the time he wasn’t training his throwing abilities.
“Athletes and business owners have something in common,” Stewart explained recently on Trevor Koot’s business podcast. “They are always putting themselves in a state of vulnerability. We are always pushing ourselves to fail, whether it’s physically, mentally, spiritually—whatever.”
“We are always trying to better the business. I’m not just a catalytic converter buyer—I am a business out to supply the world with recycling services. I’m not just a shot-putter; I’m a shot-putter with the goal of trying to push things.”
