Alberta Aims: Alberta offering one-time $5,000 tax credit for skilled immigrants in trades

Edmonton, Alberta — As part of the “Alberta is Calling” program, the province is offering up to 2,000 eligible skilled tradespeople with a one-time refundable tax credit of $5,000.

The program intends to help mitigate the ongoing labour shortage in the province while encouraging more immigration in the province.

The “Alberta is Calling” program was first introduced in April 2024. To be eligible for the tax credit, candidates must:

  • Be 18 years or older when they apply;
  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
  • Have moved to Alberta between May 7 and December 31, 2024;
  • Have been a tax resident of Alberta on December 31, 2024;
  • Have moved to Alberta between May 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024
  • Have been a resident of Alberta for at least 12 consecutive months at the time of application
