Playing With Platforms: Stellantis showcases new line of flexible vehicle platforms interchangeable with ICE and electric vehicles

Toronto, Ontario — Stellantis has announced that it has developed automotive platforms that can be used in internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).

According to a recent press release, Stellantis is working on four new flexible platforms—each designed to be used in a different segment–coming in a small STLA, medium STLA, large STLA and Frame STLA variety.

While more information is set to be announced concerning each flexible frame, Stellantis has revealed details concerning the STLA Large platform option.

In the press release, Stellantis stated that the STLA Large platform is set to underpin models in the D and E segments, or full-size vehicles from the Dodge and Jeep brands, and will be the first introduced in the North American market. The platform is expected to launch between 2024 and 2026.

The automaker further noted that the STLA platform will be able to be manipulated to adjust the wheelbase, overall width, height and ground clearance, and will utilize different suspension modules, as well as both 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures.

“Our goals for our STLA platforms are ambitious but this is what our customers need from us today,” Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said.

“Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers. The flexibility and agility of this platform is its hallmark and will be a driving force for our success in the shift to electrification in North America.”
