Toronto, Ontario — January 14, 2019 —Lexus has unveiled a new concept car designed to be the “ultimate expression of beauty” – an LC Coupe rejigged as a convertible.
The LC Convertible concept, which is expected to use the same 5.0-litre V8 engine as the Coupe, is set to debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible, explained that the design “reimagines” the LC Coupe as a “future convertible”.
He added: “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”
The car has a strong focus on aesthetics, with Lexus explaining that “every line” of the concept was drawn to “evoke an emotional response”.
But the Japanese manufacturer is eager to add that it is more than “just a grand tourer”, emphasising that it features short overhangs, 22-inch wheels and a wide stance as reminders of its performance potential.
Mori said that a production version of the concept would be “exhilarating”, explaining that driving the real thing would be an all-encompassing experience.
“You would see its dynamic lines as you approach, hear its engine when you started it up and feel everything around you once on the road,” he said. “It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you got behind the wheel.”
Commentators have already predicted there is a strong likelihood of the LC Convertible – which Lexus has branded an “aspirational halo” for the company – going into production.
