Wuhu, China — PPG announced Thursday that it has, alongside Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co., opened a colour creation lab in the country with the expressed purpose of developing new colours for Chery vehicles.
This new facility, located in Chery’s home province of Anhui, is expected to utilize cutting-edge testing and formulation processes to provide actionable insights and recommendations for use in Chery’s manufacturing plants.
“As the leading single-source coatings supplier for automotive manufacturing, PPG is excited to partner with Chery, a company that prioritizes technological innovation and sustainable production,” said v-p of PPG’s Asia Pacific automotive coatings market, Thomas Li.
“We will leverage our global colour leadership to predict future trends, while advancing paint technology for the next generation of Chery vehicles.”
Chery and PPG have been working together since 2003, and in 2008 their partnership reached a new level with the opening of a PPG automotive coatings plant in the city of Wuhu, where Chery is headquartered.
The 2022 opening of Chery’s Qingdao plant brought with it the extensive use of PPG’s B1:B2 Compact Paint System, which is now also in use in Wuhu, according to PPG’s press release.
