Toronto, Ontario — In this week’s recall update, Transport Canada has discovered KIA instrument clusters with faulty warning lights, randomly disconnecting BMW battery connectors and Mercedes-Benz batteries that will not warn the driver of problems.
BMW is recalling the 2023 IX and I7 models (recall No. 2023250) warning that connectors for the high-voltage battery monitoring system may not be attached correctly, potentially resulting in vehicle stalls and lost wheel power. A replacement high-voltage battery cell supervision circuit has been recommended.
Mercedes-Benz is recalling the 2022 EQS Class model (recall No. 2023257) indicating that potential faults in the battery management system, leading to the driver being unaware of problems in the high-voltage battery. A dealership software update for the battery management system has been recommended.
KIA is recalling several 2023 models, including the Soul, Sportage, Niro and Telluride (recall No. 2023251). These vehicles may have blank instrument cluster screens, failing to provide information such as odometer readings, warnings, and malfunction graphics, thereby leading to increased crash risks. A dealership software update to the instrument cluster software has been recommended.
