Refinishing Assistance: Mercedes-Benz releases new guide for refinishing Parktronics parking assist sensors

Toronto, Ontario — Mercedes-Benz has released a new manual on proper refinishing practices on the its parking assistance sensors, a topic that varies greatly between OEMs and their models.

According to a post on I-CAR Repairability Technical Support, damaged sensors require painting to match the specifications of the individual vehicle, and OEMs often provide info on how to paint these sensors correctly.

When it comes to the Parktronics system sensors on Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the OEM recommends painting sensors in the corresponding vehicle colour if the part number ends in “9999”, or additional information 420 is present in XENTRY Parts Information.

Sensors are to be coated in layers precisely between 70um to 120mm thick, warning “deviating paint thicknesses will cause the diaphragm to detune, thereby causing everything from measurement accuracy issues up to system failure.”
