Swedish Safety: Polestar 2 EV earns NHTSA’s highest safety rating

Gothenberg, Sweden — The NHTSA has awarded the Polestar 2 its highest possible safety rating, marking it as one of North America’s safest vehicles available to consumers.

This follows testing under the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), which assesses vehicles for their safety features, from construction features that protect passengers to emerging vehicle technologies like automatic braking and lane-keeping assistance.

“Building on last year’s 5-Star EuroNCAP rating, we are happy to announce that Polestar 2 has also received the benchmark 5-star rating from the NHTSA in the United States,” said Gregor Hembrough, head of Polestar North America.

According to a press release, this comes from a combination of protective and preventative technologies, such as a superstructure that deflects impact energy away from the occupant, cabin and battery pack.

Similarly, a 2021 video from the European New Car Assessment Programme YouTube channel showcases some of these preventative technologies.

“Our customers can take pride and comfort knowing that their Polestar 2 features the latest technology, great design and sustainable materials complemented by a top safety rating.”
