St. Paul, Minnesota — January 22, 2017 — 3M has won a preliminary injunction against Spain’s BossAuto Innova for infringement of 3M’s patent on its PPS Paint Preparation System.

In brief, the court order, “ … prohibits the import and/or manufacture, export, promotion, offering, introduction in trade and marketing of BossAuto’s “BossAuto Paint System” (“BPS”) and its component parts.”

BossAuto may appeal the court decision to the Court of Appeal of Barcelona. The main case will proceed for a final determination on validity and infringement of the patent.

A statement from 3M says the company is committed to protecting its intellectual property and investments in paint spraying technologies.

3M’s PPS system eliminates the need for traditional mixing cups and paint strainers. The paint is mixed and sprayed from the same PPS cup, liner with a lid with a built-in filter. According to 3M, specifically designed adapters allow painters to use the PPS system with virtually any spray gun.
