Collision Repair magazine is asking students all across Canada: where will the collision repair industry be in 2020? To raise awareness of the collision repair industry, we are spearheading. Vision 2020, an essay contest that wants the youth opinion on where the industry is heading.

Darryl Simmons, Publisher of Collision Repair magazine, says, “The goal is to change people’s perceptions about the industry as well as attract some new talent.”

“The future of the industry is dependent on getting new talent and changing perceptions across the board for parents, students and educators,” says Don Treschak of Treschak Enterprises. “It’s important that they realize the auto industry is a useful and valid job market to enter.”

OUTSIDE THE BOX
While this opportunity will immediately interest students already enrolled in auto training programs, we’d like students outside of the field to participate as well. The contest will be divided into two sections, one for auto students and another for non-auto students in high school, college and university. Darryl says, “By reaching the non-auto students, hopefully we can get them thinking about something they normally wouldn’t.”

It may take a little background research to get the ball rolling for some. But that’s the idea. With even a little knowledge of the industry, students can begin thinking about its future.

PERSPECTIVE
It may very well be the case in fifteen years from now that a student made an accurate prediction. Hopefully, a full-standing toolbox will go to the best story in each section at the national level.

But what would a non-auto student want with a toolbox? Well, it can make a really handy dresser, Darryl says. “Even law students and those in pre-med love tool boxes, and if they can get a chance to win one by writing a story, at least a few will try.”

To get involved please contact Darryl Simmons at 416-628-8344 or Don Treschak at 800-552-5856.
